Mobile vs residential proxies for account work is mostly a question of stability, not stealth. For accounts you log in to from a desktop browser and want the platform to recognise as the same user every day, buy static residential or ISP proxies: one address per account that does not change. If you only read one row, read the first. Most account work runs from desktop tools and needs one stable address per account, which is a static residential or ISP product. Mobile is the specialist choice.
Check first: do you need a proxy at all?
A surprising amount of "account work" needs no proxy, and adding one creates problems.
- Delegated access beats shared logins. Major ad and social platforms offer business tools where a client grants your team access without handing over a password. Your staff log in as themselves. Location changes are expected and no proxy is needed.
- One team, one location. If your team works from one office and manages accounts that belong to your own company in the same country, the office connection is the most consistent IP you will ever have.
- Security prompts are not blocks. A "new login location" email when a colleague travels is a security feature working. Completing the verification is the right fix.
Proxies earn their place when the location an account is expected to be used from differs from where your staff sit, when several unrelated accounts would otherwise share one office IP, or when you are testing experiences that depend on network type or country.

What changes when a session is logged in
For scraping, a proxy is judged per request: did this fetch succeed? For account work, it is judged per identity over time, and the platform has much more to go on.
A logged-in session ties together the account's history, its usual login locations, the devices it has seen, and the networks those logins came from. Security systems look for sudden changes in that picture, because sudden changes are what account takeovers look like. The practical consequences for choosing an IP type:
- Consistency beats reputation. A clean IP that changes every ten minutes looks worse than an ordinary IP that stays the same for months.
- The network type should match the device. A desktop browser session arriving from a mobile carrier network is not unusual, since people tether, but an account that alternates between carrier, home broadband and hosting networks every day is.
- Neighbours matter. On shared pools, other customers' behaviour on the same address can attach to your session. You cannot see who they are.
- Geography should be boring. The account's country, the IP's country, the browser's timezone and language should agree, and stay agreed.

Mobile vs residential proxies: five questions that decide
1. How does the platform expect to be used?
App-first platforms see a large share of their legitimate traffic from phones, much of it on carrier networks. Desktop-first platforms, such as most marketplaces and business dashboards, see mostly broadband. Match the network type to how your team actually uses the account: if staff work in a desktop browser, a carrier IP adds nothing but cost.
2. How long must the address stay the same?
Weeks or months points to static residential or ISP proxies, which sell a fixed address. Hours points to a residential sticky session. Mobile sits in between: dedicated mobile ports can hold one carrier address for long periods, but carriers reassign addresses, and many mobile products rotate on a schedule or on demand.
3. How much do you trust the neighbours?
Mobile carrier addresses are shared by many real subscribers at once through CGNAT, which is normal for that network and generally treated as such. Residential addresses on shared proxy pools are shared by other proxy customers, which is a different kind of sharing. 4. How much traffic does one account use?
Account work is light compared with scraping: dashboards, messages, uploads. Per-gigabyte billing is usually fine for text-heavy work and expensive for video uploads or media-heavy feeds. Measure one real working session before choosing a billing model.
5. How specific must the location be?
Country is enough for most accounts. City or carrier matters for local businesses, carrier-specific app testing, or accounts with an established city history. Every step down in precision shrinks the available pool and raises the price.
Static or rotating, within each type
"Residential" and "mobile" each come in several shapes. The shape matters more than the label.

Static residential and ISP products are close cousins: ISP proxies are addresses registered to consumer internet providers but hosted on servers, so they stay online and fast. The three product shapes are usually billed three different ways. Vendor prices vary widely and change often, so compare shapes first and check current rates on each provider's pricing page.

An illustrative model, using assumed usage rather than measured data: an agency managing 40 client accounts from desktop tools, each using roughly 30 MB of traffic per working day over 22 days, uses about 26 GB a month in total. On a per-gigabyte product the bill scales with that traffic. On a per-IP static product it scales with the 40 accounts, whatever their traffic. Sourcing: ask how the IPs were obtained
Residential and mobile addresses belong to real people's connections. How the provider got permission to route traffic through them is an ethical question and a practical one, because unconsented networks attract abuse and blocklisting.
Ask any provider, in writing:
- How are residential or mobile peers recruited, and what exactly do they consent to?
- Can peers see and withdraw consent easily?
- For mobile, are these SIM-based devices the provider operates, or consumer phones in a peer network?
- Which use cases does the acceptable use policy prohibit, and does it require customer verification?
- What happens to an address after abuse reports?

Account hygiene that matters more than IP type
Most security prompts on legitimately managed accounts come from inconsistency, not from the wrong proxy type. These practices keep your own logins predictable:
- One account, one stable address. Do not share an address across unrelated clients, and do not move an account between addresses without reason.
- Keep location signals aligned. Browser timezone, language and the IP's country should agree with where the account is normally used.
- Do not change network type casually. An account that has always logged in from broadband should not suddenly appear on a carrier network, and vice versa.
- Use the platform's own security features. Two-factor authentication owned by the account holder, recorded recovery options, and delegated access where offered.
- Complete verification when asked. A verification step is the platform confirming the account holder. Answer it honestly with the real owner's details.
- Document who operates what. For agencies, a record of which staff member operates which client account from which address is useful for the client and for any platform review.
None of this is about hiding anything. It is the same discipline a security team applies to its own admin logins.
